This site hosts a collection of information on U.S. media history, including the history of television programming, the record industry, and radio. After a long career as a television executive, consultant and author, I enjoy sharing information about the media. My latest book, The Blackface Minstrel Show in Mass Media: 20th Century Performances on Radio, Records, Film and Television is available from McFarland and major booksellers. I began the research for this book more than 20 years ago. It is the first detailed examination of this strange entertainment as it flourished in all four major 20th century media, why it lasted so long and what finally brought about its end. Pictures and transcripts from shows are included. A companion CD is also available, from Archeophone Records. My thanks to the Association for Recorded Sound Collections for recognizing the book with its 2020 Award for Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research.

Note: while I’m happy to provide free information on this site, I cannot answer individual questions and do not buy or evaluate records.
